Name: Named in 1797 by Hauy from the Greek for “through” and “to see” in allusion to the visibility of internal cleavage planes.

Type Locality: Altyn-Tyube dioptase deposit (Altyn-Tube), Altyn-Tyube area, Bukhar-Zhyrau, Karaganda Region – Kazakhstan
